You might see that heading and think that you will be reading a post all about the perils of eating that accompanying the holidays. Good guess, but not so.
As part of “Project Positivity” I am coming to a realization that one of the easiest ways to shift from my negative thinking–particularly directed toward myself–is to focus on the things that I am grateful for.
So, from time to time, I will post about the things that I am particularly thankful for at the time (aka the category of Thankitude). I will start today…..
Today, I am grateful for my body. Yes, I know that it is at the heart of what I berate myself about from time to time. While I’m not 100% happy with my appearance, I am so very grateful for my body. It is a strong body. For the most part it is a healthy body. I’m grateful for my pretty eyes and for my crooked smile. I’m grateful for my thick (albeit fine) hair. I’m thanks for strong arms that allow me to hug the people in my life. I’m grateful for a voice that allows me to sing and express myself. I’m grateful for all of the little scars that remind me of the good and the not so good times in my past. I’m grateful for good hearing and eyesight. I’m grateful for mostly straight teeth. I am grateful that I can run, and jump, and swim, and work, and play, and sleep, and eat. People…..I have it good! I’m grateful for this body!
My challenge to you the next time you want to pick apart things about your appearance, to sit down with a piece of paper and for every thing you don’t like about your body — match it with two things you are thankful for about your body. I promise you, your opinion of yourself and your body will be forever changed.
After doing this myself, I am so much more dedicated to taking care of what I have rather than wanting the things that are not. I am thankful!
